Father's Day Gifting

The final special holiday before the summer begins is Father's Day.

Although not a religiously inspired event, Father's Day is still important. Father's Day is a modern celebration.

Inspired by the American tradition which was popularised in the early 1900s by Sonora Dodd. She wanted to create a male equivalent to Mother's Day to honour her single father who raised her. The Brits adopted the same date that became the standard in the U.S. in the 1960s.

Celebrated on the third Sunday in June, this year it is 21st June 2026.
In the U.K. it is a day to celebrate Father's, Step-father's, Grandparents and male role-models who have a father like effect on us.

Because Father's Day is a modern celebration there are no established traditions for how to celebrate it, unlike Mother's Day. It isn't near another big holiday either, like Easter.
Most people who celebrate it do so with presents, cards and gifts. Then do whatever fun things the dad likes. A special dinner or BBQs are popular. Luckily as the day is in June, the chances for good weather is more likely so eating outdoors is more common.

Here some of our Father's Day gifts as a sample of what we have.

Easter Gifting

 It's Easter at long last!

Spring has truly sprung with all the gorgeous flowers. We have been enjoying the bright yellow daffodils on our regular walk to the supermarket. The days are getting longer, a bit dryer and warmer.

Easter isn't just about family and food. Our favourite thing about Easter is the crafting.
Murphy and I are both very artistic so we love to get stuck into crafting lots of springtime goodies and decorating our home. Such fun!

And then there's the cooking where I prepare delicious meals and desserts. Cakes and chocolates are a must! Although there is one secret you probably don't know about us. We're both vegan! So all our treats are plant based and kind to animals and the planet.

And if that isn't enough then there's the gardening! I love growing plants and vegetables. Spring is a great time to finally get back outside, after all that rain, and get planting. And over the bank holiday weekend we'll be out there relaxing and enjoying our time off.

We've expanded our Easter range this year. I think we got a bit carried away with our designs and had a great time adding new gifts. If you haven't already seen it then hurry over and check out our latest goodies.

Mother's Day Britain versus America

Mother's Day is fast approaching us once again. Here in Britain we celebrate it in March. This year it is Sunday March 15th.

Our Mother's Day is very different to the American's version of the same day.

The holiday has very old roots established sometime the the medieval period and for the deeply Christian people of the time, it meant that those that worked were given permission to return home to visit family and attend their "mother church". Mother's Day is always on a Sunday and many Christians still visit church for the special service. In fact Mother's Day is on the fourth day of Lent, causing it's date to vary each year because of Easter's varying date. In America Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May.

Lent traditions. Lent is a time of fasting or giving up treats, but the rules for this are often relaxed for the celebration of family reunions were daughters gave posies of freshly picked spring flowers and fresh baked cakes like Simnel cakes.

Simnel cakes are now more often associated with Easter not Mother's Day.

Originally it was just called Mothering Sunday but during World War 2 the name was changed when American soldiers took the celebration home with them and added the commercial aspects to it.

Of course the biggest difference I suppose would lie in the fact that Americans spell it mom and we Brits spell it mum. When we create our designs we have to be careful about this. We have to take spelling into account for the two respective countries. Our website is for the Brits and has British spelling for our products. We also sell on eBay and those are made especially for our American customers. It is the only one we have to be careful about. Other family members are still the same with the same spellings. Father's Day and dad is never a problem.
